International Symposium on
Drylands Ecology and Human Security
Post Conference Info
Herewith we would once again like to thank all of you for your participation in the International Symposium on Drylands Ecology and Human Security (ISDEHS 2006).
The symposium certainly raised a lot of highly interesting questions not only in regards to drylands issues, but also in respect to intercultural relations. To sum up we all agreed that when it comes to regional development issues and to successfully fight the continuous threat to human security in drylands as a global challenge, we first need to overcome cultural impediments in dialogue and understanding. Most certainly this will be a long term process and we already faced the communication gaps at this our pioneer event. Furthermore we once again identified the need for interdisciplinary research and to approach the desertification debate from a holistic approach to find applicable solutions. Finally and probably the difficult of them all, we certainly need to find ways to include serious and sustainable local participation from the GCC member states into our dialogue.
